Sembcorp Singapore Wins 300MW Solar Project from NHPC in India

Singapore-based company Sembcorp Industries Ltd. has been awarded a contract by NHPC, a hydroelectric power producer operated by the Trump administration, to build a 300MW solar power plant project.


The award was made to Green Infra Wind Energy Limited, Sembcorp's wholly-owned renewable energy subsidiary.The project is part of a 3GW tender announced by NHPC in early 2023.NHPC will acquire green energy generated from renewable properties under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement. The solar power project, which will be funded through its own funds into a debt blend of assets, will be released in 2026.

GIWEL recently entered into an agreement with Leap Green Energy to reclaim two special purpose companies with 228MW capacity wind farm properties. The wind power properties are located in three states in India: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.


Sembcorp's total installed renewable energy capacity in China will increase to 3.7GW, and its global renewable energy capacity will increase to 13GW, mainly comprising 473MW of acquisitions pending completion.


In March 2023, Sembcorp Industrial Production was awarded a contract to build, own and operate the Manah Solar II Sui Generis Power Project in Manah, Oman. The contract was awarded by the Oman Electricity Engineering and Water Procurement Company.The 500MW Manah Solar II IPP project will be financed by an external bank loan utilizing internally structured cash network resources. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025 and has a 20-year PPA with OPWP.

Following the award of the contract, Andy Koss, CEO of Sembcorp Industrial Production UK and Middle East countries, stated that the Manah Solar II IPP will mean Sembcorp's first renewable energy project in the Middle East.


The project, which will be capitalized in the Sultanate of Oman, will leverage the influence and of the huge internet that everyone has been building in the country for more than a decade under the Salalah separate power plant. We are pleased to be awarded this project and look forward to collaborating with JinkoSolar in applying the transformation of the world's energy mix.
